Bologna (Italy) : GAP / Public art Forum - 15-16 May, 2008

The forum, occurring in Bologna on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, 2008, is dedicated to public art and the relationship between artistic interventions in public space and urban transformation.
Numerous speakers from
Italy and abroad have been invited to participate, as well as representatives of local institutions. The forum is open and invites artists and students from the Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Bologna to participate as well. The brief text that follows indicates the taking of a position, a defined point of view, and constitutes an explicit invitation to the debate. "We do not wish to give being to a parade of declarations and an ordered sequence of meetings in which each of the speakers finds an audience to whom he or she illustrates his or her own experience, reading from an already-prepared speech; on the contrary, our aim is to create a platform of discussion in order to attempt to describe/circumscribe the multiform practices that are presently comprised in the term ?public art.? The forum, moreover, will signal the beginning of a path destined to continue with several weekly meetings and various workshops, intended as preparatory steps to the conception and creation of works at public art that will begin to be executed in the urban landscape of the city of Bologna in 2009.
The entire project is connected with the BJC and the Iceberg Festival, and is made possible by the agreement between the Emilia-Romagna Region and the
Municipality of Bologna.
