Call for Artists : Manitoba Plaza, City of Vancouver (Canada)
City of Vancouver Public Art Program - Private Development Program
Pinnacle International (West First) Plaza Incorporated
Budget: $320,330.70 +GST
Deadline for submissions: September 30, 2008
Under the City of Vancouver's Option A for a Public Art Program for a Private Development, a developer is required to provide Public Art. The goal of The Pinnacle development is to respond to issues of sustainability by providing a dense, mixed-use development that is integrated to the context of the surrounding commercial/residential neighbourhood and reflects the industrial heritage of the site.
The site for the artwork falls within the Shipyard Precinct of SEFC and is also located close to the historic shoreline of False Creek. The Plaza is the forecourt to the historic Salt Building which is to be revitalized. A Public Art Process is underway for the adjacent SEFC Olympic Village and the Plaza space to the north of the Salt Building. A conceptual approach for the art work for the site has been developed in the 'guiding principles' and 'art and ideas' sections of the Southeast False Creek Art Master Plan. The Artist's response to the Manitoba Plaza may respond to the proposals for these areas. The work/s is to be located in areas offering the public a free and unobstructed experience of the work, with preference given to areas providing the greatest opportunities for interaction with the piece.
The Plaza at Manitoba has not as yet been designed. The intent is to work with the selected Artist to finalize the design. The artist should be prepared to work with the design team to integrate the theme or expression into the plaza.
