Giny VOS, Second Thought (2008). Groningen (The Netherlands)
Below the Stadsbalkon in front of the station in Groningen , a snow globe is suspended, upside down, from the ceiling. Every few minutes, the station is revealed as a crystalline light structure, before disappearing in a cloud of illuminated snowflakes and passing into its own shadow.

Second Thought is a response to the visible tension that has arisen between the new Stadsbalkon (cycle storage / subway) and the station. The Stadsbalkon gives a new allure to the monumental station, while at the same time obscuring it from view.

The station acquires a fairytale aspect and becomes nostalgic, while the other side of the coin is also revealed. Time and again, like an ominous bat, the shadow engulfs the view of the station. As a snow globe is often a souvenir encapsulating a memory of a place, Second Thought is a reflection of the change in a specific place.
