LEGACY LANDMARK ART COMMISSION: CALL FOR CREDENTIALS. Art Gallery of Hamilton, Ontario, (Canada)
Founded in 1914, the AGH is one of Canada?s leading public galleries, with one of the most important permanent collections in the country. The Gallery also enjoys a reputation for being an innovator in programming. The Legacy Landmark Art Commission for the AGH will be sited on Commonwealth Square and the Irving T. Zucker Sculpture Garden. The artwork will raise the visual and physical profile of the Gallery, signaling its presence in the heart of the downtown core and setting a new benchmark for the sculpture collection. It is intended that the commissioned artwork be of impressive scale and presence, of the highest quality and with the power to captivate both the general public and art-appreciating audiences alike.
Public Art Management (PAM) will be managing this process in tandem with the AGH and will manage all competitor communications. Questions must be submitted in writing. The AGH will be responsible for media and other inquiries from the public. (Janet Mowat, Director of Marketing and Communications: [email protected]).
This Call for Credentials (the ?Call?) initiates the first of a three-stage selection process to identify artists for the creation of this urban scale, monumental, highly visible, landmark artwork. The completed commission will comprise a major element of the permanent collection. It is anticipated that the project will be completed by the first half of 2016.
